M2M Race Cancelled

I am sorry to announce that the race will be canceled again this year. Several issues have arisen this past week at which I have been dealing with and trying to find solutions. Unfortunately, it has proved to be way too much stress when combined with business and family priorities. With the race not being affiliated with a paddling club I am not afforded the ability to pass tasks on to others. This past week I have exhausted everything avenue that I could to try and keep the race on, but it just wasn’t possible.

I want to thank all the Volunteers, Escort Drivers, Participants and everyone else that has contributed to making this event a great success over the many years.

Unlike the other SoCal Winter Race Series Events, The M2M Race has never been associated with a paddling club so every detail has fallen solely on myself or the prior race organizer. We have always had great support from the paddling community and the volunteers that help with the morning registration, timing and awards which combined to make it a huge success. I cannot thank everyone of you enough for all your dedication over the years.

The Malibu 2 Marina Championship Race has been running for just short of 30 years. In 2004 the original organizer decided after many years of organizing the event it was time for him to stepdown. Being one of the longest running race in SoCal, I decided to step in so this event wouldn’t disappear. Being the last point-to-point event in the SoCal Winter Series has always been a deciding factor to continue putting on the event. That being said, I feel that it is time for me to pass the baton.
Organizing such a logistically difficult point-to-point event has been both rewarding and frustrating.

Moving forward, we are actively looking for an Outrigger Club, Company or other entity to take this event to the next level. I am more than willing to stay on as an advisor to help with the event, but with my personal obligations my time is limited for running the entire event.

Now maybe I can go back to racing the M2M instead of working it.
